There are so many people that work double-shifts and extra hours in order to make a living for their families. However, people that do work those extra hours are still not making enough money to bring home to their families. It is not fair that the rich keep getting richer and work less. The only way to make change is for the public to do something about low income jobs. Minimum wage is still not high enough for people to work double the hours and shifts and pay for health insurance, housing or groceries. According to the video, a lady said that minimum wage should still be raised and the rich should be taxed more. I agree and disagree with her statement. The wealthy may work just as hard as people who make low income salary and do deserve every penny they earn. But, people who make a lot of money doing nothing, should be taxed more.
The public needs to be more educated on the fact that there are dozens of poor communities and children without food and clothes. It is hard to feel bad for families who sit on the side of the road asking for money when they should be working for those children and not teaching them to beg. However, it is not fair for the families who do work full-time and do not have enough money for housing or insurance to go to the doctor. How has society been so blind-sided by all this? Or the public just ignores it and goes on daily life for themselves. Who knows, but one day someone’s high paid income job could be gone and they will be part of the low-income society.

In chapter 2, the biggest problem I noticed for families is, switching around job schedules constantly in order to adjust to childcare sitters. Many of the families do not have a consistent childcare sitter and so the child thinks he or she is going one place but is transferring to another sitter. It is very confusing for a young child to be moved around from sitter to sitter especially if they become comfortable there. One of the stories in chapter 2, a child asks his mom why he is not going back to the same sitter anymore and it is because the childcare is too expensive. It has nothing to do with the sitter or the child but the child might start to think that he or she did something wrong to be changing sitters all the time.
Another downfall of the childcare system is mothers having more children. Mother’s have to sacrifice waiting to have another child because it is too expensive to have two or three children in childcare at the same time. Childcare should be the easiest thing for families to find and work into their schedule. It is ridiculous how expensive childcare has to be when daycares are making enough money off each child that they could afford lowering their prices.

In chapter 3, Julia faces many obstacles when finding a stable childcare for her daughter. She is on welfare and when trying to get her daughter into a decent childcare service, they put her name at the bottom and end up blowing her off. They probably feel that she is not stable herself since she is on welfare and will never pay for their services. But, where can welfare mothers take their children? She tried relying on a family friend to watch her daughter until she could figure out her options and then that fell through. Julia’s childcare affected her work and at points had to stop working if care broke down. Not only is childcare giving her a terrible time, but her own life support could be taken away from her as well. There is not way women should be living like this day to day.
Women could work several minimum wage jobs and support their family, but not if they are single mothers. Childcare needs to take a step back and realize that these women are working for hard for their children and it is not because they are lazy and do not want to work. Single working mothers need better childcare or else we are going to see more and more women and children on the streets.
